Female breasts appear in all sorts of shapes, sizes and feature variations. This breast gallery, glossary and index is dedicated to all different breasts around the world. Regular, unique or even sometimes a bit weird... In fact, there are well over four thousand differently defines breast types! And in this breast type gallery we list them all for you. What is your breast type?
As there are so many, we've divided this overcomplete glossary of breasts into four seperate segments:
- Minimal to small sized breasts ( Cup 0, cup A and cup B)
- Regular sized breasts (cup C)
- Large sized breast types (cup D)
- Extra large sized breasts (Cup DD (or E), F & G)
- Unevenly sized breasts
Breast cup (bra) sizes
In theory, there an unlimited number of breast cup sizes possible, and in common practice we can define 19 band sizes * 13 cup sizes = 247 different breast sizes, and although those at the far ends such as 26K or 50A do not occur a lot, the possibility is still there. Sizing tables are far from universal though, and when buying a bra you may find yourself buying a DDD bra of one brand that is E with another brand and still exactly the same size. We hold on to the middle route and will accept the usage of double lettered bra cup sizes, for example for women who can't comfortably fit in either D or E they should go for size DD etc.
The difference between each breast cup size is one inch, which is an overall global standard. Starting at 0-inch for AA, 1-inch fort A, 2-inch for B, 3-inch for C, etc. The difference between your band measurement (all around at armpit height) and full-breast measurement (WITH bra, measured over the fullest part of your bust) maked up your breast / bra cup size. If you measure an uneven number for your band size, add 1 to get the correct market-standard band size.
All specific breasts sizes, where we could find examples, are given their own gallery:

Breast fullness: How full is your cup?
The female breasts have a certain fullness we can determine. These are not actual breast types but breast characteristics that are only part of the breast type. For instance, elliptical breasts are fuller at the bottom while shallow on the top section, while fuller on the sides as well as the insides.
The "quad boobs" problem of full breasts; bra spill-over |
Full as a whole
These breasts are equally full all throughout and are usually round in shape. Women with full breasts most often suffer from so called quad boobs, and even with correctly fitted bra they usually get "spill overs" due to the bra cutting off part of the breast tissue half-way. If you have this, you can best wear a (French) demi-cut bra (also known as demi style or half-cup bras) with a low cut. This bra minimizes the quad boob effect. You may also want to consider a balconette bra which is characterized by a square neckline, falling at mid-breast height. Another option is to go for a Kewi bra, a recently developed, highly engineered type of bra. Absolutely do not wear bras that tend to cut through the fullest part of your breasts or a bra that has a tight seam at the top.
Regular fullness as a wholeShallow as a wholeIf your breast tissue (often less then normal) is spread out over a larger then regular portion of your chest, then you have shallow breasts. Although shallow breasts are most often seen in women with smaller breast sizes (usually up to cup C) it may occasionally occur in larger sized breast cups.
Full on the sidesBreasts with the fullness concentrated in the outer areas (sides) of the breasts, towards the armpits. You will benefit from wearing a plunge bra that is more tight at the sides, pushing your breasts slightly to the insides or a bra that has a similar effect, supporting your breasts from the outside towards the inside.

Reduced projection / minimized breast tissueThose women who have breasts with reduced projection, or minimized breast tissue have a regular breast base circumference but no matching (less) breast tissue, so that the bra cup is not filled entirely. For instance, the breast base may be perfectly fitting inside a D-cup bra, yet the actual breasts themselves do not have enough fatty tissue inside to completely fill the bra cup. Choosing a smaller cup size, C, will not be adequate since the underwires do not match the breasts base. For these women it is advised to wear minimizer bras or bras with stretch fabric. You may also opt for breast enhancers which can properly fill the empty spaces inside your bra. In more serious cases you might also want to consider breast enlargement.
Breast firmness
- Firm all around
- Regular firmness all around
-
Saggy all around (pendulous breasts)
Sagging boobs are a very common thing and are usually the result of age, breast weight, wearing a bra too often (yes, wearing a bra makes your boobs go saggy) and the tissue inside of your breasts naturally being or becoming softer and the skin of your breasts stretching over time (especially after a child).
Balcony bra
Wear either a full-cup bra, a "3-part cup balcony bra" or a 3-quarter cup bra for the best support and looks. Never ever wear a half-cup bra, as this will give you a hogh risk of (part) of your breast(s) to suddenly fall out of your bra, especially when you lean forward. This also counts for plunge bras, which have a fairly open center >>> not smart! And remember... wearing a bra too often, especially at night, makes your breasts hang earlier, faster and more. Unless you have cup size D or larger, try not to wear a bra for more then 8 hours a day or even better less then that.
Breast shapes
- Ellipse shaped breastsBreasts that are ellipse shaped are more wide then high when observed from the front-view. They often look like "rolls" whereby the upper breast part has no or little tissue and the breast often runs from the middle all the way to the side.
- Tubular shaped breastsThese breasts have generally less breast-tissue (breastmeat) and are long and thin in shape. Mostly, breasts of this type are cup size C and below, but there are however some women with larger boob size who also share the tube shape breast type. The difference between tubular and pointy breasts is that tube shaped breasts are generally more saggy, less developed and a narrow base.
Which bras are best to wear on tubular breatsts? You should best choose a bra that has thinner bands / wires and projected cups. - Pear shaped breastsThese boobs are fuller on the lower part then at the upper part, representing more or less a pear-shape. This may be difficult to recognize from the front, yet from the side-view there is a distinctive difference noticeable between upper and lower breast sections.
Which bra should I wear with pear shaped breasts? For women with pear shaped breasts the best bra to use is either a molded cup bra, a padded bra or a padded top / dress.
- Pointed breasts (cone / conical / bullet shaped breasts or torpedo tits)This breast type sticks out more then usual and they usually have a sloping shape from top to bottom. This type of breasts is sometimes closely related to ellipse shaped breasts and banana boobs.
Which bra to wear for pointy breasts?A molded cup bra will vastly reduce unwanted nipple exposure and will round-out the shape of your boobs. Padded bras can also enhance the rounder shaping of your breasts while you may also want to consider a padded push-up bra.
Narrow rooted and wide rooted breasts
This is a certain variation that cannot be seen from just looking at your breasts and is not directly (yet indirectly) linked to breast size, breast shape or which kind of bra you should wear. Whether you have wide or narrow (or regular rooted breasts is determined by how far inside your breast is rooted in your body. See the picture on the right to understand what we mean.
